Former Commissioner Campos was first sworn in as a Commissioner of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission on August 22, 2002. On June 2, 2005, he was nominated by President George W. Bush for a second term, and was confirmed by the Senate on July 29, 2005. Commissioner Campos has served for four years as the Commission’s liaison to the international regulatory community. He has become an influential voice for the convergence of standards and for rational regulation that promotes cross-border transactions. Campos is currently the Partner-in-Charge of the Washington D.C. office of Cooley Godward Kronish, where he is responsible for international regulatory issues and international standard setting. He advises both foreign regulators as well as many foreign issuers. Commissioner Campos has been recognized as one of the top Latino leaders in America. He has authored academic articles in the Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Intermediation and other leading finance journals. He gained experience in negotiating techniques and excelled in prominent positions. Following extensive experiences in Africa and Asia as a financial analyst, Kell began his career at the UN in Geneva, where he worked from 1987 to 1990 with the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). In 1990, he joined the New York office of UNCTAD, which he headed from 1993 to 1997. In 1997, Kell became a senior officer in the Executive Office of UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, responsible for fostering cooperation with the private sector. Kydland is the Jeffrey Henley Professor of Economics at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and 2004 Nobel Laureate in Economics. Professor Kydland received his B.A. in Economics from the Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration, and his Ph.D. in Economics from Carnegie Mellon University. After previous appointments at Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Texas at Austin, and the Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration, he joined the UCSB faculty in 2004, where he is also the Director of the Laboratory for Aggregate Economics and Finance (LAEF). He is a Research Associate for the Federal Reserve Banks of Dallas and Cleveland, and a Senior Research Fellow at the IC2 Institute at the University of Texas at Austin. He is an Adjunct Professor at the Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration, University of Stavanger, and Carnegie Mellon University, and has held visiting scholar and professor positions at, among other places, the Hoover Institution and the Universidad Torcuato di Tella in Buenos Aires. He was elected a Fellow of the Econometric Society in 1992. Professor Kydland was awarded the 2004 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences jointly with Professor Edward C. Prescott of Arizona State University. Professors Kydland and Prescott received the Nobel Prize for their research on business cycles and macroeconomic policy, specifically, the driving forces behind business cycles and the time consistency of economic policy. As president and chief executive officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland, Sandra Pianalto has both national and local leadership responsibilities. She participates in the formulation of U.S. monetary policy, and she oversees 1,600 employees in Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Pittsburgh who conduct economic research, supervise financial institutions, and provide payment services to commercial banks and the U.S. government.

Ms. Pianalto joined the Reserve Bank in 1983 as an economist in the Research Department. She was appointed assistant vice president of public affairs in 1984, vice president and corporate secretary in 1988, and first vice president and chief operating officer in 1993. She assumed her current position in 2003.

Before joining the Bank, Ms. Pianalto was an economist at the Federal Reserve Board of Governors and served on the staff of the Budget Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives. She earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from The University of Akron and a master’s degree in economics from The George Washington University. Former Governor Taft began his career in public service as a Peace Corps Volunteer, working as a schoolteacher in Tanzania, East Africa, right after graduating from college. He went on to get a master's degree in government from Princeton and a law degree from the University of Cincinnati. His first job in government was with the Bureau of the Budget in the state of Illinois. He has served as an elected official in Ohio for 30 years, as a member of the state legislature, a county commissioner, Ohio Secretary of State and, most recently, as governor of Ohio. Taft is currently a distinguished research associate with the University of Dayton, working with the School of Education and Allied Professions and the University of Dayton Research Institute to establish a new research center for educational excellence.
