Selection Process

SBA Summer, 2008 European Study Abroad Programs Selection Process

Approximately 25 students per site per session will be admitted into the program.

Students turning in applications before October 30 will be considered first. In order to be accepted, students must not be on academic probation or social probation, and have a minimum GPA of 2.25. students below this with very strong mitigating circumstances, may explain these in a separate letter accompanying the application. Examples might be a student having a chronic illness such as mononucleosis, where the student stayed in school rather than withdrawing and received low grades one term because of it. Once acceptability has been satisfied, the order of selection criteria is as follows:

1. All students applying for both summer sessions will have priority over students wanted only one sessions at one site. These two sessions may both be Augsburg, or any combination of first and second session sites.

2. If there is space available at a site, one session students will be accommodated as best as possible.

3. In the case of over-subscription, either among two site students, or where space is available for one site students, GPAs will be the next variable considered. If this is needed, students who have completed four of the following courses will receive a .5 addition to the GPAs: ACC 207, ACC 208, DSC 210, DSC 211, ECO 203 & ECO 204. This addition is made because historically, most students receive their lowest grades in these six courses. Any statements made by students about their performance will be considered at this point.

4. If there are very close applicants at this point, the applicability of the courses offered to their respective programs will be examined.

5. If there are still applicants too close to distinguish, the reference that students gave will be asked his/her opinion of the student's ability and behavior.
