Links for Safety in Overseas Study

U.S. Embassies and Related Safety Information

  • Travel Warnings  - are issued when the State Department recommends that Americans avoid a certain country.  These are updated every day of the year.
  • Trip Registration  - all our students will register their trip and related information with the nearest U.S. Embassy to their country of travel as a safety measure.
  • U.S. Embassies Around the World  -  This link will take you to any US Embassy, Consulate or Diplomatic Mission.

The following are the links for U.S. Embassies in countries UD will visit this year:

U.S. Embassy in Germany                    U.S. Embassy in Ireland

U.S. Embassy in Italy                           U.S. Embassy in Spain

  • General Travel Site  -  especially for U.S. citizens; from the Dept. of State
  • Minimizing Danger - This State Department site contains helpful precautions to minimize the chance of becoming a victim of terrorism and also provides other safety tips for Americans traveling overseas (including sections on a safe trip abroad, help for American victims of crime overseas, emergency information, and rail safety abroad, among other items)
  • Services for Overseas U.S. citizens  - is also available on the Dept. of State site.  These include crisis management handled by case officers who assist in all matters involving protective services for Americans abroad, including arrests, death cases, financial or medical emergencies, and welfare and whereabouts inquiries.
  • Dealing with Emergencies & Crises Overseas - recommendations for various emergencies that could be experienced, again from the Dept. of State.
  • Important Phone Numbers  - at the State Dept., including Overseas Citizen's Services, Passport replacement, and more (most are toll-free)
  • "Have a Safe Trip Abroad"  - is a page presented again by State Dept. that includes lots of practical and easy to practice safety information.
  • Safety While Traveling Overseas - this document provides a broad overview of safety issues and is required reading by all UD students.    We've adapted this slightly to fit our needs a little better.
