American citizens in the Madrid area who require assistance should come to the Embassy during walk-in service hours from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. for notary services, or call (91) 587-2240 between 3:00. p.m. and 5:30. p.m.

The American Citizen Services Unit handles a wide variety of services. The unit issues emergency passports, processes passport applications, provides notarial services, provides voting information, and documents births and deaths of Americans in Spain.  It also assists travelers in distress; for example, in acquiring funds from home, in arranging for medical care, or in assisting Americans who are arrested or incarcerated in Spain.
