Crotty Center for Students with a major or minor in Entrepreneurship (ENT) will develop an understanding of how a business enterprise is conceived, launched and sustained. Our curriculum teaches students how to identify viable business opportunities and explores how such opportunities are transformed into new ventures. Additionally, emphasis is placed on how entrepreneurial ventures successfully compete for financial resources, identify and reach their target market, and establish business processes, systems, and controls to manage small and growth-oriented ventures. One of the distinctions of the UD ENT major is the Sophomore Entrepreneurship Experience where student teams create and operate micro-businesses during their sophomore year. Examples of past micro-businesses include felt banners, beach towels, calendars, folding chairs, t-shirts, a clothing line, spirit towels, a smoothie stand and the rehabilitation of a 112 year old home near campus. This experience is delivered through the Crotty Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership. To date, 60 micro-companies have been created, successfully run and harvested. For the 2008/2009 academic year, there are 180 undergraduate students majoring in ENT and 125 minors within the School of Business Administration. ENT majors are cohorted in several sophomore, junior and senior business classes. These modified courses in accounting, legal environment, finance and strategy better serve the unique needs and interests of ENT majors. The UD Entrepreneurship undergraduate major offers eleven focused entrepreneurial courses for the undergraduate with students taking five required and two elective courses. Another key benefit of the UD ENT major is the capstone course Senior Seminar in Entrepreneurship, in which students work as consultants to local emerging companies, solving strategic or operational issues under the supervision of a course professor and recently retired local entrepreneurs who serve as mentors to each consulting team. With our undergraduate program being ranked #5 in America, entrepreneurship is the fastest growing major at the University of Dayton School of Business. It is also our most selective major for entrance. We do not accept all who apply for the entrepreneurship major. The entrepreneurship minor is open to all UD undergraduates who apply. Below, find our charted growth of ENT majors since the ENT major inception.
Started in the summer of 2005, the UD School of Business MBA program offers an entrepreneurship concentration within its program. The concentration has four specifically designed MBA courses for students with an interest in entrepreneurship.
